Back and neck injuries are unfortunately very common and are often a result of some type of impact injury such as a car accident, slip and fall, physical assault, or sports injuries. Spinal cord injuries are a significant type of back injury that frequently results in disabilities such as paralysis, chronic pain, and sometimes even death. There are different levels of spinal cord injuries and some are much more debilitating than others. Whether you have sustained a back injury, neck injury, or spinal cord injury, the most important first step you should take is to seek treatment immediately.

Federal Way spinal cord injury attorneys at Russell & Hill, PLLC have spent their entire practice representing clients who have sustained serious neck, back, and spinal cord injuries caused by someone else’s fault. They understand the frustration and complications that are caused by these injuries and how they can impact the lives of both the injured parties and their loved ones.

Back and neck injuries

Back and neck injuries vary widely in severity depending on the health of the injured person and the type of injury he or she sustained. Mild back and neck injuries can result in temporary pain and annoyance while severe back and neck injuries can result in chronic, unbearable pain and immobility. Back and neck injuries suffered in impact accidents can be caused due to inflammation, whiplash, vertebrae fractures, muscle injuries, and spinal cord injuries.

Spinal cord injury

As previously mentioned, spinal cord injuries are a severe type of back injury and symptoms are often life changing and devastating. “Complete” and “Incomplete” are classifications of spinal cord injuries that are described below.

  • Complete spinal cord injuries are the result of the entire width of the spinal cord being damaged at the injury location. This is the most serious type of spinal cord injury as the injured person generally will have no feeling or control of muscles below the point of injury.
  • Incomplete spinal cord injuries are less severe because only a portion of the width of the spine at the injury location is affected. This means that the injured person will likely suffer some impairment and limitations, but the injury will typically allow them to have some normal function. Impairment, limitations, and normal function vary and some people will be more seriously impacted than others.

If you have sustained a neck or back injury in an accident due to someone else’s fault, contact our Federal Way spinal cord injury attorneys to schedule a consultation.
